Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepare preliminary and detailed cost studies for projects affecting productivity, safety, and quality of plant operations.
Perform preliminary studies to determine the value of benefits to be derived from the installation of new machinery, plant expansion, etc.
Organize and direct projects concerning new equipment installation and building improvements.
Develop designs for specialized equipment based on the needs of the division.
Work with the division maintenance personnel on equipment and maintenance projects in both a planning capacity and an advisory capacity.
Participate with outside consultants in efficiency studies.
Be available for consultation and liaison work from start to finish of project including the breakdown and repair of existing machinery.
Assist plant managers and department heads with production problems and cost saving efforts.
Keep informed regarding the development of new technology supporting the plant processes.



Basic Qualifications

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May manage one to two subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 15 to 20 employees in the Maintenance Supervisor and Engineering Assistant. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Riceland's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or department managers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Must have a valid drivers license.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
